Director of consumer protection at the Fair Trading Commission (FTC), Judy Maynard, is dead.
Maynard, 61, reportedly collapsed in the bathroom at the FTC’s Green Hill, St Michael headquarters sometime this morning. Shocked staffers subsequently sought assistance for her but when an ambulance arrived at the FTC the mother of two was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.
The Warrens Crescent, St Thomas resident was a diabetic but had no other history of illness. A post mortem is to be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Maynard’s sudden passing resulted in the temporary closure of the FTC’s office while distraught staffers received professional counselling services.
Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, Donville inniss, later lauded the contribution which Maynard had made to the FTC and described the British-trained lawyer as having been a highly professional and invaluable asset at the commission.
Maynard leaves to mourn son Che, daughter Paula, mother May Maynard, five sisters and three brothers.
