Just over a month after 20-year-old Daquan St Hill of Dash Valley, St George disappeared without a trace, his mother, Sharon Callender, remains haunted by the thought that she might never recover his body in order to give him a proper burial.
Police said Daquan, a former St George Secondary School student, was last seen on February 9 in the area of Bums Variety wearing a pink short sleeves V-neck shirt, and a pair of brown leather slippers.
A subsequent manhunt in the surrounding areas proved futile and Callender is resigned to the fact that her son might be dead.
“I still haven’t heard nothing about my son as yet. It’s just whatever is in the newspapers but I’m hearing nothing from police at all,” the 43-year-old mother-of-five told Barbados TODAY.
She said of her many trying days, today was among the most difficult, as she watched young men playing in the area.
“Today was one of my worst days to be honest. I was just outside sitting down in the veranda this morning and seeing all the young fellas, I was just thinking about Daquan. I said to myself my son just got snatched from me just so, he should be one of these boys out here walking and laughing. It had me real upset.
“I don’t know what to think because I am not hearing anything at all and I just don’t know. All I would like to do is find my child. By this time I know he is dead for sure. I just want to find his remains and let somebody say something. It is not easy at all. I can’t sleep nights because of this. People would talk but he wasn’t the worst child or disrespectful. He had his ways like anybody else. I just want my child so I can give him a proper burial that is all I would like,” she stressed.
