BCC to host visual arts workshop

The Barbados Community College’s Division of Fine Arts, a Centre for Visual and Performing Arts, is conducting a pilot workshop titled Bridging Programme for Visual Art Practice: The Business of Creativity – Working as an Artist.

The sessions will take place at BCC’s Morningside campus on Friday September 21 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and September 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The workshop is open to graduates of the college. Acting Senior Tutor in the Division of Fine Arts, Allison Thompson, noted: “For many years we have been aware of the difficulties that face our graduates aiming to make the transition into professional creative practice. We are now working on a package of programmes to address this need.

“We are working on these initiatives with Liz Lydiate, who is based in the UK. Ms Lydiate, who will be leading the pilot programme, works internationally helping creative people with the business side of their work.”

Prospective participants who wish to take part in workshop should register no later than September 14 by sending emails to finearts@bcc.edu.bb as space is limited. There are also a small number of spaces on the programme for creative practitioners who are not BCC graduates, as their input will also be valuable.

“We are excited about this development, we hope that graduates will also be and that they and other creative practitioners will be able to take part and help us to drive it forward,” Thompson said.
