Julian Chadwick Mayers was given one month in which to come up with $3 000, after pleading guilty today to four drug charges.

The 44-year-old of 1st Avenue Godding Road, St Michael pleaded guilty before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A” Magistrates Court to the offences.

He was fined $2, 000 for intent to supply the drugs and $1, 000 for cultivation but was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for trafficking and possession of the marijuana.

Sergeant Martin Rock said a search warrant was executed at Mayers’ home this morning. When his bedroom was searched, police officers found 31 greaseproof wrappings, while 20 plants were found in his yard.

Mayers, who is known to the court, asked for leniency and apologized for his actions. He also said he had an illness for which he needs to attend the hospital for treatment. He therefore asked “for a fine which I can pay.”

“But you can’t just plant marijuana and self-medicate on it because you have an illness?” the magistrate said.

Reminding Mayers that he was “eligible for prison”, particularly since he had previous drug convictions, Frederick told the convicted man that failure to pay the ordered fines would result in an alternative of six months in jail on both counts.
