A case of two women who got into a fight over a man back in 2015 landed before the law court today.

Shaneka Avonda Clarke, of Scotts Gap, Brittons Hill, St Michael, pleaded guilty to assaulting Chanyce Christopher on July 8, 2015, occasioning her actual bodily harm.

According to Sergeant Theodore McClean, the two women were intimately involved with the same man and were constantly harassing each other.

On the day of the incident, Christopher was walking on Villa Road on her way home when Clarke, armed with a broom, attacked her from behind. Christopher held on to the broomstick to avoid being hit again and Clarke retaliated by pulling her hair and cuffing her about the body.

The matter was reported back then, but Clarke was only brought into custody earlier today. She allegedly told police the fight ensued because Christopher posted a picture of her face on social media accompanied with “a lady’s vagina”.

Clarke further explained in court that Christopher had been “interfering” with her all that year and she had reported the matter to police.

“She would message me on Facebook and send me threats. That night, she walked past and I asked her why she posted the picture on social media and she get hot and carrying on,” Clarke said as she explained that she had found out that Christopher was the one responsible for the post after making some enquires.

However, she was adamant that the fight was not because they were involved with the same man.

“That is what she stated,” Clarke said, adding that the police came this morning to tell her that she was charged for an incident that occurred almost three years ago.

“I was shocked,” she said.

Magistrate Frederick pointed out to Clarke that she had engaged in a confrontation in a public place.

“You are a young lady and you can’t have that kind of fighting in the street,” Frederick said as he adjourned the case to February 23 at which time he will see Christopher to address the issue of compensation.

Clarke is on $500 bail in the meantime.
