It was over a year ago that Derick Oneal Morris made local headlines after he escaped legal custody at the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court and made a dash for the streets.
However, that freedom was short lived and today the Wildey, St Michael resident was brought before Madam Justice Michelle Weekes in the High Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge of escaping legal custody without force on March 7, 2016.
At the time, Morris was awaiting a surety to post bail on his behalf when he decided to make a run for it.
However, an immediate alarm was sounded by police officers at the court and at the nearby Central Police Station and it was not long after that the escapee was spotted at a stoplight on Crumpton Street and recaptured.
Morris, who is being represented by attorney Arthur Holder, remains on remand until October 23.
