A busy summer will transition into an equally hectic end of the year for Junior Minister of Tourism, Christopher Morgan, who will be travelling to St. Kitts and Nevis for the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s Regional Tourism Youth Congress. It is a highlight of the Annual State of the Industry Conference taking place in that country this year from October 9 to 12.

The Youth Congress programme allows the participating youth to research various facets of the tourism sector and to share their ideas and vision for the future direction of Caribbean tourism.

The 17-year-old Harrison College student, who is also the Male Ambassador to the Barbados Youth Development Council and Head Boy, has already completed a three-week summer internship at the Barbados Tourism Authority and participated in several other activities hosted by the Ministry as part of his role. These activities were designed to equip him with the knowledge and experience of the tourism industry both local and regional.

Mr. Morgan will join his fellow Junior Ministers from across the region in the competition, which will simulate a CTO Board of Directors’ Meeting where prepared topics relevant to sports tourism and the use of social media in marketing destinations will be addressed. There will also be a ‘mystery’ question which will test each minister’s knowledge about tourism in his or her respective country.

The trip will not be all work, however, as the students will also have the opportunity to participate in sessions during the conference and tour attractions and sites across St. Kitts.

The Junior Minister of Tourism for Barbados was awarded his title on January 16, 2012, at the Ministry of Tourism’s Annual Speech Competition, which is part of the Tourism Education and Awareness and Me Programme. It provides young people with the opportunity to develop their communication skills and share their views on tourism. (BGIS)
