The spirit of Crop Over was awakened on Saturday as the National Cultural Foundatiohn went on an islandwide excursion, of sorts, to various communities across Barbados.
The purpose? The inaugural CBC Crop Over Crawl, in association with Banks and the Transport Board.
Just after 10 a.m. the caravan, carrying some of the island’s popular entertainers, like the reigning Pic-O-De-Crop Monarch Ian Webster, Anderson Blood Armstrong, Porgie And Murda, Grynner, RPB, Kirk Brown and Adrian Clarke, from the NCF’s headquarters car park (dubbed Crop Over Grande Central for that event) through to rural Barbados, with stops in Road View, St Peter; Bathsheba, St Joseph; Four Roads, St Philip; The Glebe, St George; and De Lime Bar in Stadium Road, St Michael.
A special stop was made in Weston, St James, to honour the late Great Carew.
The NCF’s chief executive officer Cranston Browne laid a wreath on the site from which Carew (Neville Blackman) and his home were washed into the sea during the August 3, 1995 flood.
