iWeb claims third calypso crown

iWeb is the 2017 Pic-O-De-Crop calypso monarch.

After putting down two very solid performances at the Kensington Oval on Saturday night, the seasoned performer, who previously won the title in 2013 and 2014,  amassed 108 points to capture the coveted crown for a third time, dethroning Queen Aziza in the process.

Singing Salesman and Pray For the Souls iWeb entered the competition as a crowd favourite and at the end of the night his fans certainly were not disappointed as he not only lifted the prized trophy, but also claimed the keys to a spanking new Nissan X-Trail, valued at $125, 000.

Veteran entertainer Edwin Yearwood, who returned to the Pic-O-De-Crop stage after a more than 20 year break, had to settle for second place after amassing 100 points  – eight shy of iWeb’s total – in what from early seemed to be a keen battle between the two men.

However, in the end iWeb emerged on top, even though Yearwood’s performances of Tax He and Beggar seemed to be equally captivating to the crowd on the night.

Third place went to a Donella who scored 89 points. She also received good crowd response for her performances of Virtual and Make a Change.

Fourth was Chrystal Cummins-Beckles-Holder, who scored 68 points for her renditions of Too Big For De Horse and Claim Barbados Back and rounding out the top five was Smokey Burke who scored 63 points, singing Poor-Trait and Personna Non Grata.
