King Bubba and Company should take a bow for a job well done.

It was the perfect kick off to Crop Over 2017 when King Bubba, in association with Baje International and Slam 101 FM, put on the first ever fete Illuminate, which came off at Copacabana.

And from the looks of things, come next year, the organizers may have to look for a larger venue. The show was all about hype from start to finish and illuminated nothing but love and unity.

Doors opened at 9 p.m. but the first performer did not grace the stage until 1:30 a.m. Soca lovers did not seem to mind, however.

King Bubba started the show with his new hit This Is the Life, and continued with many other hits. He also introduced his new FM band for the first time.

He was then joined on stage by the orange hair songbird, Nikita, who did more than Bun It Up with her back up dancers from Riddim Tribe.

Local heavyweights in Lil Rick, Peter Ram and Stiffy followed in quick succession and were their usual upbeat selves much to the delight of the crowd.

Lil Rick sang two of his 2017 offerings which the crowd couldn’t get enough of.

Stiffy too introduced one of his 2017 bashment songs and he too was well received. His free styling was also a joy to listen to.

Trinidadian SekonSta represented well for the 868. Though young, he impressed the crowd with his set especially his 2017 mega hit Kings and Queens. He was followed by Antiguan Ricardo Drue who also represented well.

Drue, who is very well loved here in Barbados, sang hit after hit including Professional, Vagabond, ID and his new song, The Break Up Song.

Deejays Riggo Suave, Crown Prince, Scratch Master, and Barrie Hype did well to keep the crowd thoroughly entertained before the live performances began.

Apart from the deejays, the crowd was also entertained by comedian Majah Hype who was the host for the night.
