2016 Calypso Monarch, Queen Aziza, is ready to defend her crown.
Last year, the 22 year-old created history and had tongues wagging after becoming the youngest person to ever take the title and just the second lady in 28 years to do so.
Speaking to Bajan Vibes following her performance at Crop Over in the City, Aziza said she felt good being back on stage, and she was ready to defend come August.
“Yes I am ready for the season. The songs are coming along well. I’m releasing one song next week. Yes I am ready to defend my crown. I was born ready,” she said.
Her song Still Standing Tall was released today, and is already receiving good reviews. She will perform in her tent, All Stars, from this coming week.
Aziza said her reign over the past year has been fantastic and the experience has surpassed all her expectations.
“The year has been great. Everything is positive and lovely. I’ve been to schools and I would talk to children and so on. I even mentored some Junior Monarch kids,” she added.
