Camp Director of the seven-day camp Krisnan Hurdle stated that the camp was designed in such a way to equip students for life in leadership, public speaking, self confidence and team building.
However, he said one the down sides of the camp was funding, which proved to be a bit of a challenge.
“We were fortunate though to have some very generous donors who sponsored us but funding will always prove to be a problem in this economic situation,” he added.
Hurdle said that the camp had been recommended by parents and they were sending their children back. Dealing with the different age groups is not always easy and the camp director said that some of the campers never had the opportunity to live with so many others for such a long period of time. However, he thanked his support team of counsellors who he said assisted greatly in managing the camp.
He described the camp as a leadership event with a heavy emphasis on the Bible and Bible studies. Hurdle said that they were also looking at “living, sexuality and relationships”.
“It is not one dimensional,” he said, “It equips students to be whole.”
One camper, Shay Alleyne, said this was his first time at the camp but so far his experience was a good one.
“I have learnt a lot that I did not know before and if I can come back I will. This camp has taught me a lot about God that I did not know before and it has been an enlightening experience for me,” he added.
The camp closes on Saturday. (MR)
