Business Development Officer with the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation Ian Eastmond believes local farmers are well on their way to being able to feed the nation.
Speaking during the organizations last Farmer’s Market for 2014, which was held at Fairy Valley in Christ Church yesterday, he noted that over the years that they have been holding the event, they have been seeing a gradual increase the interest shown by farmers to the event.
“The farmers that are taking part have been drawn from all across the island, because this event in itself has been an outreach initiative. We are also hoping that through these events, we are hoping that persons will follow suit and establish their own farmers markets,” he told Barbados TODAY.
Over 30 farmers took part in the event which saw scores of Barbados looking for last minute deals on produce ranging from ground provisions like yam, pumpkins, carrots, onion and tomatoes, to pigeon peas, clothing and event household linens.
