Twenty-five students of the Grantley Adams Memorial Secondary School sustained soft tissue injuries earlier today when the Transport Board bus in which they were travelling along Cane Garden Road, St. Thomas, was involved in an accident with a garbage truck owned by Garbage Management Inc.
At the time of the accident, 70 students of the Grantley Adams Memorial School were on their way to school.
Some of injured were taken by another Transport Board bus to the Warrens Polyclinic for treatment, while assessments were made on the spot by a medical team led by Dr. David Byer, assisted by three parmedics.
Driver of the garbage truck, Courtney Bishop, of Spooner’s Hill, St. Michael, sustained injuries to his legs, neck and hands, while his assistant, Alvin Payne, 51, of Bank Hall, St. Michael, sustained head injuries.
Driver of the Transport Board bus, Seymour Harrison, 34, was taken to a private medical facility for treatment.
One divisional officer and ten fire officers responded to accident, which occurred around 8 a.m. Personnel from the Department of Emergency Management, the Ministry of Transport and Works, the Transport Board and the Grantley Adams Memorial School also responded.†(NC)††
