Govt attempts to fix sewage problem at St Lawrence Primary

Following the closure of the St Lawrence Primary School due to a recent sewage spill on its premises, construction work has started on an artificial embankment to stop the flow.

However, spokesman for the south coast residents Adrian Donavan told Barbados TODAY this afternoon that while this may solve one problem, another one still remains.

The building of an artificial embankment at the back of St Lawrence Primary School today to keep out further sewage encroachments. Inset, Adrian Donovan

“It is just to stop the water from flowing into the back of the school, but that is one problem from the swamp side,” he said, while warning that the main sewer inside the school also poses a threat.

“So they might solve one, but the other problem will still arise too,” Donavan stressed.

The Christ Church school has been closed since Monday owing to the ongoing problems at the south coast sewerage system, with its 210 students currently scattered between the Arthur Smith Primary, St Matthias Church and the St Lawrence Anglican Church in the same parish.
