A PSV conductor who appeared in a Bridgetown court Monday admitted that he assaulted his own sister.

Ricky Venceroy Phillips, 27, of Jackson Tenantry Road, Jackson, St Michael, told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant that he assaulted Crystal Gale Phillips on January 23 this year, occasioning her actual bodily harm.

The facts presented by police prosecutor Sergeant Neville Reid indicated that the complainant arrived home on the mentioned date to hear others in the household having a conversation about her.

When she entered the house, a comment was made which resulted in a dispute between her and Phillips.

During the verbal tussle, according to the prosecutor, Phillips told his sister: “I want you to tell me something. I want you to tell me that you going to stab me or something and I going to come in there and kill you with a hammer.”

The complainant responded: “If you can threaten to take my life, why can’t I tell you that I going to stab you?”

After hearing that comment, Phillips rushed somewhere in the house and took up a hammer and tried attacking his sister with it.

In defending herself, the complainant held on to the hammer and Phillips retaliated by punching her in the head and neck.

Sergeant Reid said other family members eventually parted the warring siblings.

Magistrate Cuffy-Sergeant withheld sentencing in the matter, instead making a request for the prosecution to warn Crystal Gale Phillips to attend the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on April 7.

In the meantime, Phillips was released on $3,000 bail which he secured with one surety, and he was warned to stay away from his sister.

In another case, a horticulturist was also warned to stay away from his alleged victim.

Dillano Frost Olive of #1 Bell Road, My Lord’s Hill, St Michael is accused of unlawfully assaulting Danielle Melissa Bolden on March 10, occasioning her actual bodily harm.

However, he told the magistrate he was not guilty of the offence.

There was no objection to bail, although Sergeant Reid requested that conditions be attached if Olive was to be released.

The prosecutor pointed out that Olive and Bolden had a child together and the situation was such that they needed to proceed with caution.

“There needs to be a go-between,” he said.

Olive’s surety, who signed $2,000 bail on his behalf, assured the magistrate that she would be the mediator under the circumstances.

Olive returns to court on May 22.
