Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has lauded the St. Gabriel’s School, saying it has made a great contribution to education in Barbados over the past 65 years.

Stuart made the comments today while participating in the school’s 65th anniversary celebrations, which included the unveiling of a plaque at its Henry’s Lane, St. Michael, location.

He told the students, teachers and parents present: “Barbados is a better place and a richer place for the existence of St. Gabriel’s School, and I hope that you will continue to do the very fine job that you are doing here…

“Sixty-five years in the life of a school is a very long time and you could not have reached that age if you did not have a strong character and … a good reputation. Parents would not have wanted to send their children to St. Gabriel’s, if it was not a school that was well thought of.”

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of the Parent Teacher Association, stressing that it was a vital connection between the parents and the teachers. He continued: “It is good to know that you have a PTA that is active, so that parents can be kept constantly informed as to how students are doing by their contact with teachers, and, of course, that puts you on notice that if you are not model students, there are ways in which your parents can get to know because there is a link between your teachers and your parents.”

Stuart congratulated the students who wrote this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination and reminded them that their work “has not ended, it has just begun”.

He also thanked the principal of the school for her fine leadership and the teachers for their selflessness and devotion to their children.

The Prime Minister also toured the infant, nursery and junior departments and chatted with the children.
