Residents of the Soroptimist Village and Activity Centre were all smiles after being treated to goodie bags by RBC Royal Bank staffers recently. The bags were packed with sweet treats, toiletries and other personal essential items.
The items were bought by the employees of RBC Royal Bank as part of their 2017 i-Care Project and the RBC NexGen Employee resource group. Relationship Manager Kole Mascoll said that the club does regular fundraising for a number of causes and this time around they all agreed that they wanted to do something for the elderly.
“These are the people who helped build Barbados, yet too often we hear of instances of people neglecting or even abusing older folks. We really appreciate the work the Soroptimists have done in not just looking out for our senior citizens but in making their golden years vibrant and enjoyable so we wanted to contribute to that,” said Mascoll.
President of Soroptimist International of Barbados, Ayo Barnard-Rawlins thanked RBC for the donation, saying it tied into the work the Club does at the Village.
“We firmly believe that one’s senior years shouldn’t just be lived out but be full of life. This is why in addition to creating the Senior Citizens Residential Village, we also created the Hildegarde Weekes Activity Centre to give both residents and seniors who wish to visit, a range of fun and fulfilling activities to enjoy. We would like our seniors to feel treasured and valued and these lovely gifts will certainly help them feel that way,” said Barnard-Rawlins.
