Top youth focused on military career

He excelled in all areas of training and study during his just-ended one-year stint with the Barbados Youth Service (BYS).

And based on this performance, Rasheed Reid walked away with top honours — including the coveted Director’s Award and the Minister’s Award — following today’s 2016 BYS graduation.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Ruth Blackman congratulating the top BYS recruit Rasheed Reid.

Reid was credited for his high level of commitment to task, flexibility, hard work, dedication and willingness to learn and share during this evening’s ceremony held at the Radisson Aquatica Resort.

In his valedictorian address, Reid spoke of his aspiration to serve Barbados in the military forces.

“We all joined the programme for different reasons, some to achieve CXC qualifications, most to prepare for the world of work,”  he told the other 79 students who joined the BYS programme in September 2015.

However, Reid said his professional aim was to become an officer in the Barbados Coast Guard, which is the maritime division of the Barbados Defence Force.
