Williams confident he’ll win The City for the DLP

Democratic Labour Party (DLP) candidate for The City, Henderson Williams is confident of his ability to claim the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) stronghold for his party in the next general election.

“We are well assured that we are on course to take The City,” said a confident Williams, flanked his party members and supporters this afternoon during a mass canvass in the constituency.

Accompanying the businessman on the campaign trail were the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Ronald Jones; representative for St Michael West Central James Paul; and the DLP General Secretary George Pilgrim.

Williams was introduced to the constituency in April when it was announced that Patrick Todd would pass on the baton to him.

As a longstanding member of the community, Williams said constituents have been disappointed with the lack of representation exhibited by current parliamentary representative Lt Jeffery Bostic and are looking for solutions to the social issues affecting them.

“They are fed up with persons saying that we are going to do that and then there is neglect for four years,” said Williams.

“I have given my assurance that it is not the type of politics I have signed on to,” he added.

He said that he his team’s focus will be primarily on urban renewal.

Meantime, Minister Jones strongly endorsed Williams as the next representative for The City. Jones, pointing out that the constituency has been neglected, said Williams will be leading the way towards its revival.

“The City is supposed to be that area of the economy that gives flesh to the other parts of Barbados and we recognize that over the years there has been some neglect. This cannot continue if our economy and The City’s economy is to grow,” he said.

“We intend to stay on the path of accuracy and truth and we are not going to be promising these airy fairy things out of the sky. It is impossible in the economic environment that we have been in,” he added.
