US businessman killed in Jamaica shootout

KINGSTON — A US national killed during a shootout in Westmoreland on Saturday has been identified as a businessman of Kenosha Wisconsin.

Fifty-two-year-old David Barnes owns Cost Cutters salons in Kenosha, Racine, Sturtevant and Burlington. The Cost Cutters regional office confirmed his death.

Barnes was caught in crossfire during a shootout in western Jamaica after police confronted gunmen who were trying to commit a robbery.

According to media reports from his hometown friends say Barnes cared about his community. He was on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha. Club spokesman Ron Stevens tells the Kenosha News that Barnes was a big part of the organisation and its history.

The US Embassy says Barnes’ family has been notified of his death. Embassy officials are awaiting an official report from Jamaican authorities. (Observer)
