COUVA, Trinidad – Barbados got the better of Bahamas in five sets (23-25, 25-19, 12-25, 25-18, 15-11) in a clash of former champions in Pool E of the 16th Senior Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Men’s Championship at the National Cycling Centre Tuesday.
Reflecting on the victory for the ten-time tournament champions, captain Shawn Simpson, one of three returning players in the team said it was pleasing to get a win to start with considering it was a relatively new team.
“Overall, the match was a very competitive one and with the young group we have it will help our confidence for our remaining matches.
Prince Tanique Wilson, captain of Bahamas, the 2012 champions, said he felt his team did not play to their true potential.
“We only played in patches and we need to improve overall very quickly as we look to win the tournament and qualify to the next round.
Covance Mortimer, Bahamas’ coach, echoed the views of his captain saying: “We did not keep focused for the match at all. There were also too many mental errors on our part and in the fifth set our game just broke down completely.”
Coach of Barbados Andrew Culpepper was delighted with the win.
