The left-handed Carter hit 105 off only 44 balls including 11 fours and eight sixes as UWI amassed a record 252 for five off 20 overs after winning the toss. He brought up his first century in the seven-year history of the tournament off 42 balls.

Carter then took four for 21 off four overs with his right-arm medium-pace in Yorkshire’s 175 for eight.

Also in Zone “A”, Super Centre Spartan also won by 77 runs against Wildey at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic ground at Wildey.

Set up by a second wicket partnership of 157 between Rashidi Boucher and Marrodon Bend, Spartan made 197 for two. Boucher top-scored with 89 off 55 balls including 11 fours and three sixes, while Bend contributed an unbeaten 87 off 63 deliveries including six fours and the same number of sixes.

Wildey limped to 120 for eight as off-spinner Chaim Holder grabbed four for 21.

Highly promising Barbados batsman Shai Hope was again in fine form, slamming 82 not out for ESA Field Pickwick but in a losing cause by 24 runs against CounterPoint Wanderers at Dayrells Road in Zone “C”.

Hope faced 56 balls and counted four fours and four sixes as Pickwick, chasing 186 to win off 20 overs, were restricted to 161 for four. He also made 82 against Ince Transport MTW in the opening round on Saturday.

Opener Shayne Moseley again stood out with the bat for Wanderers, scoring 83 off 56 balls with seven fours and five sixes in a total of 185 for four to follow a knock of 58 off Guardian General Barbados Youth on Saturday.

Barbados and West Indies Test batsman Kirk Edwards contributed 49 off 36 balls containing eight fours and one six in a second wicket stand of 97

Wanderers were further lifted by an unbeaten 40 off 23 balls from Raymon Reifer, the Combined Campuses & Colleges all-rounder, who previously represented UWI. Reifer and Moseley put on 73 in 5.4 overs for the third wicket.

In the same Zone, Barbados Super50 captain Kevin Stoute hit another half-century and took three wickets for ICBL Empire, who survived a scare before beating MTW by four runs at Bank Hall.

Stoute scored 80 not out off 62 balls with 15 threes and four fours in a total of 167 for two off 20 overs.

He then picked up three for 21 in MTW’s 163 for six of which opener Eric Batson made 52 off 43 balls.
