There was plenty action last Sunday at the Barbados Karting Association’s 2012 Frutee Championship which continued at Bushy Park, St. Philip raceway.

With the 310 premier class and the 270 sportsman classes merged for racing, there was a battle for the overall victory and not just class honours.

In the respective classes, Tremaine Forde-Catwell and Zane Maloney finished with a perfect score of 100 after winning the class in all four races on the day.

Forde-Catwell who was competing in the 310 class, finished way ahead of Javani Smith who was second with 81 points, but unable to challenge at any point for the lead.

Christian Hinds had mechanical problems during the second race and despite the feverish battle to rectify the problem before the end of the day, his father Stefan Hinds was forced to give up the fight just as the final race of the day was being called.

He finished with 21 points.

Maloney in control

Driving in an anti-clockwise direction, Maloney had things his own way in the 270 Yamaha class as Joshua Parris had a mystery of a time with his kart, which seemed unable to match Maloney’s unlike at last race meet.

Parris finished with 84 points on the day with all second place finishes.

Another karter who was battling with mechanical issues on the day was Krystal Kirton. Though she managed to finish the first race, a clutch problem sidelined her for the other two races.

Her crew managed to get her on the start line for the final race but once again the mechanical gremlins raised their heads and she was unable to finish the race.

Rain delayed the start of the final race.

With the race day running way ahead of schedule the organisers gave the track some time to dry off before sending their young charges out to race.

In the overall battle it was between Forde-Catwell and Maloney. Though it was close at times, giving the parents and spectators more than enough to cheer for, it was Forde-Catwell who held the advantage at the end. (PR)
