For the second straight season, defending champions Foundation ‘A’ Old Scholars and Alleyne Alumni will clash in the final of the Christ Church Foundation School Joel Garner Twenty20 tapeball tournament.

In the presence of big crowd at Church Hill on Friday night, Alleyne, desperate for their first title in what will now be their third final, demolished Combermere Old Scholars by 85 runs, while Foundation ‘A’ defeated the 2011 champions RG Plumbing Coleridge & Parry Old Scholars by 33 runs.

Spurred by half-centuries from former Barbados batsman Randy Thomas and Kemar Smith, Alleyne scored 138 for five off 20 overs after winning the toss.

Opener Thomas, captain of the BCA Sagicor General Super Cup champions LIME, topscored with 53 off 49 balls including six fours, while Smith, a brother of Barbados and West Indies all-rounder, Dwayne Smith, made an unbeaten 50 off 40 balls with five boundaries.

The pair added 73 in 9.5 overs for the third wicket.

Fast bowler Khalid Springer took three for 19 off four overs.

Combermere, seeking their first final, were then jolted by a combination of fast-medium bowling from Jamoe Carrington and skipper Kenrick Marshall as they tumbled to 53 all out in 11.2 overs. Six batsmen were leg before wicket.

Only Devon Goodman, with 30 off 22 balls including five fours and one six at No. 6, reached double figures.

Carrington, operating from the northern end, took five for 15 off four overs to duly capture the Baron’s Smokehouse $100 Player-of-the-Match award, while Marshall picked up three for 20, also off four overs.

Foundation ‘A’ made 109 for five off 20 overs after they, too, won the toss.

Amory Holder top-scored with 33 not out off 30 balls, striking three fours and two sixes to earn the Baron’s Smokehouse $100 Player-of-the-Match prize. Opener Ricardo Yearwood made 29 off 35 balls and Dwight Carter, 11.

Studded with four pacers including West Indies Under-19 team players Jerome Jones and Jofra Archer, along with off-spinner and skipper Michael Matthews, Foundation ‘A’ had Coleridge & Parry reeling on 52 for eight by the 12th over before they rallied to 76 all out in 17.5 overs.

Seven batsmen were bowled.

Shane Parris was the only double-figure contributor with 18 not out at No. 7.

Matthews, Damien Farley, Jones and left-armer Michael Holder each took two wickets for ten, 12, 15 and 18 runs respectively.

The final is scheduled for Friday, March 28 at Church Hill.  (KH)
