Tribalism is firmly rooted in the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA), says its president Joel Garner.

Breaking his silence on the saga surrounding the departure of former chief executive officer of the BCA, Jefferson Miller, Garner told CBC’s SPORTS EXPRESS radio programme over the weekend that it was time to move on from the incident. Speaking to host Andi Thornhill, Garner expressed his disappointment over what he described as the way information had been leaked to the media.

“It seems as if nothing anymore is sacred. There has been a lot of information about the situation in the electronic media and the press. Some of it appeared to be leaked by persons close to the BCA,” Garner said.

He explained if a board member did not vote on a decision that did not mean he or she was not part of what had been agreed to because all directors have collective responsibility.

Barbados TODAY understands that the decision to hire Miller received four nods of approval from directors,  three were against his employment and five persons abstained.

The former West Indies fast bowler said the job of  president had taken a toll on him and he was not sure if he would be seeking the post again after his present term ended.

“There have been attacks on the office of president and which have been rather nasty and  personal and it has affected my family life. These attacks are not on the way our cricket is being managed. The BCA is one of the few sporting bodies that presents its annual report on time. Our cricket is doing well, Barbados have about five or six players who are representing the West Indies and we won three major cricket titles this year. What are the reasons behind this contention?” Garner asked

He revealed that he has never used a casting vote during his tenure as president of the BCA.

“I have always voted with the consensus. I listen to the view off everyone and vote with the majority,” Garner said.

Garner said an acting CEO was not in place but he would be meeting with the general secretary of the BCA this week to discuss the matter.
