Guardian Group supporting youth football

The Guardian Group is the title sponsor of the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA) 2016 Youth Football Tournament that runs until April.

At a recent ceremony to present the sponsorship cheque, Guardian Life of the Caribbean unit manager Fabian Bishop expressed his company’s pleasure to be involved in the development of football in Barbados.

“Guardian Group is excited to have forged a partnership with the Barbados Football Association on one of the programmes that is very dear to the BFA in terms of the advancement of the discipline of football in Barbados. Guardian Group views its role as more of a corporate partner in what is a bigger picture of youth development. We see it as our responsibility to support bodies such as the BFA [which] assist in encouraging individual and societal development,” he said.

Pro Shottas’ Greg Castagne and BFA’s president Randy Harris (r).

Bishop also highlighted the Group’s established 17-year partnership with the Herman Griffith Primary Schools’ Cricket Competition, Pride of Villa netball team and the Guardian Group Barbados Youth cricket team. Bishop noted that the support of the tournament also promoted a healthy lifestyle through physical activity, which was an important tenet within Guardian Group’s corporate social responsibility mandate.

President of the BFA Randy Harris highlighted the importance of developing football at the youth level, noting that was at the core of any progress in the sport.

“Youth Development is the foundation of any football programme. We are extremely happy that corporate Barbados has seen the work we have been doing at the youth level and have partnered with us to support this programme. This sponsorship will allow us to award winning teams with critical equipment to assist with the development programmes at the club level,” he said.

The Guardian Group Youth Football Tournament continues this Saturday at Barclays, Blenheim, Deighton Griffith, Lumber Company and the BFA’s AstroTurf at Wildey, St Michael. Games start at 8:15 a.m. with the exception of at Barclays which begins at 8:30 a.m.

The 2016 edition of the tournament is now in its 48th year
