Team Barbados dominated the recent Grenada Guns and Rifle Association’s inaugural Practical Handgun Championship.

Five athletes travelled to Grenada to compete in the competition. Among these were both president of the Barbados Rifle Association, Michael Hinkson and regional director for Barbados, Kevin Grant. As this was the first competition held in Grenada, Hinkson and Grant assisted the hosts with their safe gun-handling rules and International Practical Shooting Confederation regulations.

The competition spanned two days and included two divisions (standard and production) for both the precision and the practical components. Barbados was represented in both the standard and production divisions. There were 42 competitors from several regional countries including Barbados, St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.

In standard division for the precision shoot, there were 15 competitors. From Barbados, Jamar Eastmond placed third with 369 points, Richard Durant placed sixth with 338 points and Michael Hinkson placed thirteenth with 277 points.

Once again Eastmond, one of the youngest shooters in the fraternity, showed how disciplined young sportsmen can be with the right training and experience. In the production division, Barbados’ team showed great promise wrapping up a 1, 2 finish with Adrian Marshall placing first with 432 points and Grant second with 406 points.

The practical competition was very challenging but the Barbados team did well. In standard, battling against 15 competitors, Hinkson placed fourteenth with 39 points while Eastmond slid into ninth place with 123 points. ‘Cordite’ Durant placed third in this division with 147 points.

The Barbadian talent was really demonstrated in the production division with Grant securing second place with 154 points. Dominating the competition once again was none other than Marshall with a whopping 180 points.

It was a great tournament with Team Barbados emerging victorious and once again showing why Barbadian shooters are among the best in the region.

Caribbean shooters are now looking forward to coming to Barbados in August to compete in the Regional Stand Off match hosted at the Barbados Rifle Association.
