Super Centre Spartan beat ESA Field Pickwick by 18 runs with four balls remaining in the first semi-final of the 2014 BCA Sagicor General Twenty20 championship at Kensington Oval last night.
Chasing a par score of 144 to win, Pickwick were bowled out for 125 in 19.2 overs with their captain Kyle Hope making the top score of 35 off 32 balls. Left-arm spinner Andre Marshall took four for 16 off 3.2 controlled overs, pacer Rico Webb had three for 29 off four overs and off-spinner Chaim Holder, two for 12 off two overs.
In the Pickwick innings, the highly talented Shai Hope contributed 20 while Test discard Tino Best made 25. Earlier, Spartan scored 143 for four off their 20 overs after they were sent in. Shamarh Brooks top-scored with a polished 62 not out off 47 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. Brooks’ main support came from Marrodon Bend who made 50 from 43 deliveries including three fours and two sixes.
Brooks and Bend added 114 in 13.3 overs for the third wicket. Zahir Motara was Pickwick’s best bowler ending with figures of two for 16 in his four overs.
