As the preliminaries of the National Sports Council’s Pine Hill Dairy Primary Schools Netball Championship wind down, teams are shooting for a place in the play-offs.

St Martin’s Mangrove Primary played in a business-like manner with a convincing 8-1 victory over St Catherine’s Primary and followed up with a 5-0 win against St John’s Primary in the Marva Sealy and Inez Taylor Zone Wednesday morning at King George V Memorial Park.

Goal-shooter Tanisha Knight scored eight of her ten attempts against St Catherine’s. However Knight took off the bib and teammate Kaleah Barrow took on the role of goal-shooter against St John’s with Keandra Gibbs being goal-attack. Barrow showed she too could shoot with a perfect score of four along with one from Gibbs.

Having won two encounters, the girls of St Martin’s Mangrove were high on confidence and decided to contest a third match against St Bartholomew’s Primary who managed to edge their opponents 3-2 and somewhat dampened St Martin’s Mangrove’s spirit. Goal-attack Kionna Best netted all three of her goal-scoring attempts for St Bartholomew’s while St Martin’s goal-shooter Knight accounted for both of their goals.

St Bartholomew’s also came out on top 6-2 when they took on Reynold Weekes Primary. Best maintained her role as goal-attack and was responsible for all three goals along with goal-shooter Treanna Cummins who was just as effective with three of her own for a total of six between them. For Reynold Weekes goal-shooter Makeda Greaves and goal-attack Azariah Bourne had one goal each.

Reynold Weekes were able to trounce Hilda Skeene Primary 6-2 with goal-attack Bourne netting four from seven attempts and goal-shooter Greaves two while Hilda Skeene goal-shooter Asabi Callender placed two goals through the hoop for her team.

Hilda Skeene also lost to Gordon Walters Primary 3-1 but turned around and got the better of St John’s Primary 3-0.

Tuesday defending champions St Giles were in irresistible at the Netball Stadium.

Playing in the Kathy Harper-Hall/Agnes Crichlow Zone, St Giles trounced Deacons Primary 11-1 with Ciara Evelyn leading the charge with eight goals from 13 attempts. Her main assistance came from Rynia Ifill with three goals from seven attempts.

The champions were not done there, however, as they were equally efficient against Wesley Hall thrashing them 12-0 with Ifill taking the lead this time around with 10 goals from 15 attempts and Evelyn two goals from four attempts.

In other games played Westbury Primary defeated Deacons 4-0 and then drew 4-4 with Charles F. Broome. Charles F. Broome won 5-2 over Belmont Primary while LT Gay Primary defeated Hindsbury Primary 4-1.

In a closely contested game LT Gay defeated St Mary’s 5-4 and also recorded a 4-1 win over Hindsbury Primary. St Mary’s also registered a 3-2 win over Eagle Hall Primary.
